“Live and Let Live: A Study of Organic Forms” open

The Brookings Arts Council is pleased to host the “Live and Let Live” exhibit by Erin Nguyen in the Main Gallery starting August 29th and running through September 21st.

Nguyen is a ceramic artist who focuses on hand-built sculptures. When asked, Erin described her exhibit in this way; ‘I am pursuing my understanding of the natural world through a series called Live and Let Live: A Study of Organic Forms. As an observer of the world around me, my pieces help me to comprehend complex relationships through simple form.” Replicative shapes and textures are evident throughout this exhibit.

Erin was asked if and how the environment and nature influenced her inspiration for the exhibit. She replied, “ Mother Earth is a great teacher of the principles of designs. I try to recreate these intriguing relationships from nature’s guidance, when I use texture to create visual movement or repetition of shapes to make rhythm.” She further expanded, “As I reflect on what I am creating and how I am creating it, I see my own story emerge.”

Nguyen is currently a Visual Arts Instructor: 3D Design Instructor at Roosevelt High School in Sioux Falls and is a graduate of Augustana College in Sioux Falls. She has exhibited in various Sioux Falls exhibits and galleries as well as the Clay Studio Show in Bryn Mawr, PA.

To see and hear more about Erin’s works, we invite you to join us for her Artist Reception on August 30th from 4:30-6:30pm. Light refreshments will be served, with the Artist Talk to begin about 5pm. The public is invited to attend and there is no charge.

The exhibit is open to the public through Friday, September 21st. There is no admission charge. The Brookings Arts Council is open Tuesdays through Fridays, Noon to 5. For more information, contact 605-692-4177 or email at artscouncil@brookings.net.
